SERVPRO of Montrose / Telluride Swiftly Remediated Water Damage in a New Home

When it comes to new homes, it is essential that everything inside is installed correctly, or it can cause problems such as water damage inside. When it came to this particular Telluride home, the plumbing attached to the kitchen sink on the uppermost level broke and spilled water throughout the other levels.

Tom Miller, the owner of a local SERVPRO franchise, explains that the home "flooded within twenty-four hours of when it was going to be occupied," and that the home is "a brand new home [and it has] three levels." On the top level, where the kitchen is located, the damage was extensive.

Miller points out that "all the flooring on this level had to come out," and that "...flood-cuts of the bottom two feet of drywall" had to be made. Furthermore, because it is the kitchen where the damage originated from, "all the cabinets and all the appliances had to be removed."

From the kitchen, the water damage spread to the levels down below. Water has an easy time traveling along floors and walls. The very structure of your household can become a guide for water to flow through because water always flows downward. "We had to remove from the ceiling all of the drywall... Insulation was soaking wet, it had to be removed," Miller said, commenting on the extensive damage on the lower floors. "Water came down the walls in some places...down to the floor, flood-cuts [were made] in a lot of places."

In order to dry the water damage, SERVPRO had to set up drying equipment on the affected floors. Using tools such as ventilation fans, dehumidifiers, and air movers, SERVPRO can create an environment that fosters evaporation, drying out the structures that are salvageable. Once the structure of the house has been sufficiently dried, rebuilding can occur and then the home can be moved into. "It'll look like it never even happened."
